Love the Thorn family, Keegan Thorn is on his way home when he spot a young woman hiding in an old train station. Tracy is the witness to a murder. There are so many layers to this story, Keegan is dealing with some family dynamics, Tracy has lost all of her friends, and family except for her grandfather because she didn't turn her back on her father. This story has several attempts at murder, catching up with the Thorn brothers from the previous three books, and most of all God, scripture that stood out to me was. That we are to Bare ye one another's burdens and so fulfill the laws of Christ. Lost Christmas Memories Gold Country Cowboys Dana Mentink 9781335490728 Books Reviews
Dana Mentink has written another fast paced, action packed book that held my attention from start to finish. I have been waiting for Keegan’s story and I was not disappointed and have decided it was well worth the wait.
I’ve been fascinated with this cowboy from the first book in the series because he tends to run towards danger instead of running away from it. That does seem to be a family trait though because no matter what, they have each others backs.
I wasn’t sure that Keegan would ever meet his match but the author definitely created the perfect high energy and fearless match for him in Tracy Wilson. There are some pretty tense moments in this book but the author managed to infuse a little humour in the dialogue between Keegan and Tracey.
Kegan has long held a grudge against his biological father and his half-brother which has been an interesting part of this series because he is so loved by his adoptive family, the Thorns and he’s had an amazing life with them. Needless to say he is a flawed character but he is one that will steal your heart. He’s a little edgy which adds to his charm in my opinion.
My one and only complaint about this book is that the series has ended and I know that I’ll miss this family and the Gold Bar ranch where all are welcome and love abounds. I would love for there to be a Thorn family reunion ( hint- hint, Dana Mentink)
I received a complimentary copy of this book and was under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
4.5 stars
Buckle up, ladies and gents! This is a high stakes suspense adventure from start to finish – with a healthy dose of romance to keep things even more intense.
The heart-in-your-throat action starts right from the very first page, with Tracy witnessing a murder and then running quite literally for her own life. This sentence sent chills through me when I read it – and still does now – “Tracy knew at that moment that she would never make it back to the parking lot.” Yikes! There were several times when I wasn’t sure she’d make it out alive either and since I was fully invested in the story it felt like I wouldn’t make it out alive either haha! Further complicating the ‘thriller’ feel to this quick read novel is the fact that a) Tracy ends up with amnesia of those events after a head injury and b) there’s no evidence of the murder she saw. Talk about some stress!
Enter Keegan, perhaps the only person – other than the murderer – who believes her. I have been eagerly waiting for his story, this bad-boy who was adopted by the Thorn family in his teens and juggles those welcoming family dynamics with the strained relationships he has with his birth father and half-brother. Watching this tough guy’s protective instincts flare to life with Tracy is truly swoonworthy, and his nickname for her made me grin and melt all at once.
Bottom Line Lost Christmas Memories is the perfect wrap-up to the Gold Country Cowboys series, if we really must say goodbye to this great family. Don’t plan to relax the whole time you’re reading this one, because just about the time you do gunshots start going off again! Mentink’s skill at writing layered characters and action-driven plots keeps readers fully invested from beginning to end, rooting for the good guys and looking over their shoulder for the bad guys. If you haven’t read the other books in this series yet, fret not – it works well as a standalone (but fair warning you’ll want to go back and ‘meet’ the other Thorn brothers in their own stories too).
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
The Gold Country Cowboys series concludes with the youngest, adopted brother, and his experiences trying to protect a new women in his life. The growth he manages in the relationship between himself and his half brother is encouraging to follow. The story is intense and keeps moving, I recommend allowing time to finish it, before starting to read the book.
