Immortal Embrace Embrace Series Charlotte Blackwell Books Reviews

I downloaded this book for free. As I read Immortal Embrace, I found myself thinking over and over again "Twilight in reverse", which for me was not a bad thing since I happen to be a Twilight fan. The twist was that there were witches and day crystals which made it like Vampire Diaries. I found that overall the book was an easy and relaxing read. Don't get me wrong, there were intense moments as well. I think the one thing that stood out to me the most was the emphasis placed on the value of family and love.
I gave it 4 Stars because it did need some editing. They weren't major errors, but for that I knocked off 1/4 of a star. I knocked off another 1/4 of a star because of redundancy. I found some parts that were very repetitive, but it was not enough to deter me from reading. Finally, I knocked off 1/2 star because I felt the ending was missing something. I understand it is supposed to be a cliffhanger, but in my opinion (which is only that, my opinion)I believe the author might have left the reader with more invested in wanting to read the next book. She might have ended it in the scene where everyone was in the study so we could say "Holy cow! O-M-G! I wonder what's going to happen next?" The next part would have made a great opener, it would start everyone off exactly in the same place to continue this journey.
I would like to be clear. I am not bashing this book or the author in any way, shape, or form. I am only offering constructive criticism. I did enjoy the book and that is why I only knocked off fractions of a star instead of whole stars for each of my above mentioned points. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Blackwell.
I found this novel via , drawn by the simplicity of the cover art and the ever present pull of a synopsis surrounding the paranormal romance/horror persuasion. Immortal Embrace encompasses a bit of everything. In fact, the novel is dipping its toes in a lot of supernatural waters giving you vampires, romance and just a hint of witchcraft in the mix. It's just unfortunate that there is next to no action, a truck load of sickly sweet moments of sentimentality and the supernatural elements draw too many parallels between sitcoms and novels already on the market.

Immortal Embrace follows the musings of Sophia Pierce, a centuries old uptight teen enmeshed with a 'gifted' family of vampires determined to avoid drinking from the source and embracing the traditional, often brutal expectations of their race.

As the novel begins with tragedy, I thought that perhaps it would remain somewhat dark and sinister, exploring the difficulties of quenching vampiric thirst in modern day America and balancing the need for acceptance and the unnatural call of their nature. I expected the characters to be wizened by their years, not prone to the titillation of high school cliches.

For me the novel engaged a different path, exchanging action and intrigue for inconsequential interludes involving a cringe-worthy use pet names and a cloying amount of stolen kisses. An interesting subplot unfurling the seedy underworld of generic vampires was also exchanged for the blandness of the boy meets girl scenario teamed with a short episode of "Charmed".

Overall, Immortal Embrace does have merit. The descriptive content is sufficient and the overall concept holds promise, but due to my own lack of enjoyment, I can only honestly rate this novel two out of five fangs. I wish the author every success and hope that the preceding novels within this series relinquish some sappiness in exchange for a bit of vampire grit.
Sophia, the vampire girl, and her family, all vampires, relocated to a small town to live among humans. Sophia and her siblings started going to school and on her first day, she bumped into the hottest guy named Nathanial; who has never shown interest in girls before because he just focus on his studies and football. She doesn't understand why she is drawn to him, other than him smelling so delicious to her.

I gave it 3 stars, and here is why.

I have mixed feelings about this book. From the beginning, I was like wait a minute haven't I read this before? It felt too Twilight-ish, meets Charmed and Vampire Diaries. It was all 3 combined into one book. You have...

Vampires They don't sparkle. They wear "a piece of jewelry" that has been blessed by a witch so they can walk in daylight, eat regular food and bring up their temperature.

Nathanial falls head over heels for Sophia instantly, and feels that they are meant to be forever. Sophia and her family have powers. They can read minds, heal, see the future, and ect.

Witches Two of the most powerful witches that inherit their powers from all their ancestors before them, they even have their own "Book of Shadows". (Hmm now where have I seen that? Oh yea The Charmed Ones)

...and before I forget somewhere in the middle she throws in some werewolves.

What I like about this book was that when I read the summary I read that it had Vampires and Witches, immediately that caught my attention.
I liked how it opens up and introduce each character, how the Vampires are a close family with good values and looked out not only for themselves but for the whole town they live in. There was no foul language and I did like the romance between Sophia and Nathanial. I liked that their older brother Caspian, while being on his own and lost for killing the love of his life still kept looking out for his family.
In the end, it didn't take me anywhere that I have not been to before. Every page I turned, every line or paragraph I read, I found myself getting upset. I couldn't find a connection with the story or the characters.

To summarize my review, it seemed a bit redundant, predictable at times, and came off unoriginal to me; however I am going to give the series the benefit of a doubt and continue to read the series. I want to see how the characters grow, what happens to Nathaniel and Sophia, and how the story ends.

I don't like to give bad reviews, seeing as how hard it is to write a book, but I do have to give my honest opinion.
This is the first book in the series and after reading this book I actually bought it as I really enjoyed reading it. I have read the other books in the series thus far and I absolutely love it.
