Do or Die Reluctant Heroes Troubleshooters Suzanne Brockmann Books
I have always loved books with military or ex-military characters, which have a lot of action. Three examples that come to mind include: the Jack Reacher series by Lee Childs, Don Pendleton’s The Executioner series and the graphic novels of the Destroyer series.I had not heard about Suzanne Brockmann’s books (Trouble Shooters series, Sunrise Key Series and the Reluctant Heroes series) until I read this huge 565 page book DO OR DIE: Reluctant Heroes. She obviously has a talent for writing interesting and page turning prose involving military and ex-military heroes. This book is about a former U.S. Navy SEAL, Ian Dunn, who happens to be in prison at the beginning of this book. He is approached by a government agency with a deal that they would get him out of prison if he would agree to rescue two kidnapped children being held in a South American Embassy. He refuses the deal at first and strangely would rather remain in prison; however, there are numerous twists and turns in this action filled novel to keep you turning the pages.
I never like to give away too much information whenever I review a novel because it spoils it for those who might be interested in reading the book. In conclusion I think this writer (Suzanne Brockmann) has a bright future in the action/romance field. This book is the first in the “Reluctant Heroes” series. She also has numerous books published in the past in her “Troubleshooter” and Sunrise Key series. If you like books with interesting characters and a lot of action you should check out this page action packed book, “Do or Die.”

Do or Die Reluctant Heroes Troubleshooters Suzanne Brockmann Books Reviews
Bought this before I read the reviews and then saw some reviewers didn't like it because it's not exactly a Troubleshooters series book. Do or Die introduces a new group of characters. As a long time reader of Suzanne Brockmann and fan of the TS series I was not at all disappointed with this new crew.
The characters are very Brockmann - loyal to their family and tough as nails, but with humor and kindness in the right doses. The story is fast paced and the action is non-stop.
Looks like Reluctant Heroes will be another must-buy on my list.
As always, Suzanne delivers. The Trouble Shooters series is my addiction. I can not count how many times I have reread the series. Nobody does action adventure romance better. You fall in love with all of her characters even the ones you love to hate. She's brilliant at fleshing out characters. Her story lines are always moving forward and you feel like you're right in the middle of every action and emotion. I wish I was better at putting into words all the things I like about her books but that's just not my talent. But I will say that reading a Suzanne Brockmann book can never go wrong. Even if one is not your absolute favorite, it is still like bad Pizza, bad sex or a bad day at Disney World, even if some parts are hard to take or it's nine stars instead of 10, it's still a Suzanne Brockmann book and you're not going to be sorry you're along for the ride.
Buyer beware! Although classifies this book as "Series Troubleshooters (Book 18)", IT IS NOT! The only whiff of Troubleshooters is a reference to FBI agent Jules Cassidy as the boss of the FBI agent Deb something-or-other. It's also 'way too long.
This book was just okay. I found the mission to be unique, but the romance was disappointingly tropey. "I'm not going to sleep with you," the heroine says to the hero. Ugh. I hate that overused line. And of course the hero and heroine can only be together until the mission is over, then it's curtains for this relationship (all due to the hero's commitment issues and/or inability to manage a relationship). One gigantic disappointing cliché. The gay side relationship (and in a Brockmann book, there’s always one) was nothing special.
Of the h/h, Ian was the better of the two, but pretty "stock." I like that Phoebe was kind of mousey-pretty, but hated (as I said before) the "I'm not going to sleep with you" line. I also thought it was ridiculous for her to join the high-stacks mission--this was another eye-rolling trope. I can't stand it when authors make a heroine a part of a mission or project just because the author wants her to be a part of it for plot purposes, but, hey, it doesn't really make sense at all.
As far as Brockmann’s writing goes, she is starting to repeat herself. How many times has a male character put his feet/boots up on a table with a clunk and clunk, and I'm pretty sure she uses “high-def” and “slow-mo” in just about every book.
All in all, I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this book...and I'm beginning to doubt I ever will again. Ms. Brockmann has lost her edge for me.
I've been a fan of Brockmann for years, ever since I read the first TS book, but I have to say that the last couple books have left me underwhelmed. This piece, "Do or Die," is definitely in that vein. Firstly, I'm not sure why this book is even included in the TS series. Other than some reoccurring supporting characters and the main protagonist thumb-marked as a SEAL, there doesn't seem to be a reason. Second, lots of story threads rocking about. Each of the threads were enjoyable, but could have been their own book. Thirdly, and this is something I've noticed in the last two or three books, that there is not enough diversity in language between the characters. Everyone is starting to sound the same. Even without speaker tags, I should be able to know who is saying what because the language is distinct to each person. Fourthly, I didn't feel anything for this cast of characters. Brockmann had the power to make the reader's heart heavy with the romantic desperation her characters feel. I got none of that here. All in all, while the plot is interesting, and I will continue to read Brockmann's work, this piece was not as well-crafted as her previous work.
